Deck plates are widely used on pretty much all types of boats for quick access to various compartments and tanks, shut-off valves, and different hardware, enabling you to make an inspection, carry out cleaning tasks and other procedures. Available in different sizes, most marine deck plates have a round shape and consist of a frame, a twist-out lid, and a rubber O-ring that provides the necessary protection from water. The most common inner diameters range from 4 to 8 inches, but in order to make a hole of proper size for installing the frame, it's also crucial to know the part's outer diameter.
Besides, the plates differ by the method of opening and can be fitted with a lock. Some of them can be just pried out, but most models have screwable lids that can be removed and installed back by hand or with a special tool. The material also matters, and you can choose among the models made of polypropylene, ABS, or even bronze. Most plastic options are resistant to UV radiation.
