Most marine engines used in boats and large commercial vessels are complex engineering systems whose monitoring helps to improve their performance, fuel efficiency, and safety. Keeping an eye on motor operation gets more convenient and effective with the help of marine engine monitoring systems and parts such as fuel flow and electrical current monitors, oil pressure senders, temperature sensors, knock sensors, and other more or less complex devices specifically designed for use at sea. Particularly, precise information provided by a fuel flow monitor allows for optimizing fuel consumption and saving lots of money.
As for oil pressure senders, they generate a range of electrical signals letting you know the actual pressure in real time, unlike most automotive oil sensors which make the dash indicator light up only when the pressure drops catastrophically. Arguably, the simplest but also quite beneficial monitoring device is a fluid level sight glass allowing you to instantly evaluate the level of oil or other fluid.
