Marine exhaust manifolds are often perceived as something that lasts the lifetime of a boat, but in reality, they are more like expendable items that may need to be replaced once in a few years. If your boat is equipped with an enclosed engine cooling system that utilizes fresh water and coolant instead of raw water, or if your boat sees light use in freshwater, you can expect your manifold to last for decades. But extreme use in saltwater environments may put an end to this part in as little as three years.

A manifold is water-jacketed for cooling purposes. It has a double-walled construction, with hot exhaust gases flowing within the inner wall. The outer wall surrounding it is filled with water. Over time, the inner wall develops a leak due to corrosion. Water could make its way into the engine and cause irreparable damage. A good rule of thumb is to inspect the manifold for the extent of rust once in two to four years, and every time you remove the riser. The new part is a big investment, but it will obviously cost less money than replacing the motor due to a leaking water jacket. Here you’ll find correctly-fitting, high-quality yet reasonably-priced replacement exhaust manifolds and all of the necessary gaskets, bolts, and block-off plates.
