To get into fly fishing, you need to have basic equipment, including a fly fishing rod, reel, proper lure, and special line of several types. As a lure, fly fishermen use so-called artificial dry and wet “flies” that are tied by hand. Different types of fly lures that resemble real-life terrestrial and aquatic insects and their larvae, worms, crustaceans, and so on are used for catching different fish, including trout, bass, carp, pike, and many others. You need to have several fly rods of different weight classes. Each type of the rod is designed to handle the weight of the targeted fish while offering an optimal response.
A fly fishing reel makes no difference when catching small game fish in streams and rivers. In many cases, anglers just pull their line by hand. However, when targeting bigger fish, it is recommended to use a high-quality fly fishing reel with a drag system and sufficient line storage. Note that you cannot tie an artificial fly directly to a fishing line since it is too big and can spook targeted fish during a cast, so tippets and leaders are used. In our store, you can find a huge assortment of fly fishing rods, reels, and tackle by such respected brands as Okuma, Scientific Anglers, Martin, Eagle Claw, and others.
