Some of the most serious potential dangers for a vessel with a bilge or other enclosed spaces are flammable vapors and toxic gases. The point is, propane and gasoline vapors are heavier than air and tend to collect in the lowest parts of the bilge where people can't feel their smell. However, even a small spark can be enough for these substances to explode. In order to provide fire safety, the industry offers a wide range of marine gas detectors, and many of them are available on our digital shelves.
In most cases, such a detector includes a sensor that analyzes the surrounding air and a module that gives you a sound and/or visual signal if vapor concentration gets dangerous. Actually, each vessel with a propane system or gas tank mounted below the deck needs such a detector. Another crucial detector is a carbon monoxide one; it's mainly located in sleeping accommodations, main cabin, and other places that could collect CO produced by an operating engine or generator.
